Our youngest girls at Durham School for Girls in Qatar begin their journey in a safe, nurturing environment. Durham girls follow the EYFS assessment framework, progressing through key milestones that demonstrate what they know and can do. Learning is personalised according to each girl’s progress towards the outcomes, with tailored support to help them move forward with confidence. For example, if a student requires support in phonics, we provide targeted strategies to break words into sounds.
Durham girls develop strong social and collaborative skills by putting our MARK values into practice every day. In EYFS, they learn to work together which encourages teamwork from an early age. Students cooperate to solve problems and bring their ideas to life. Social interaction is woven throughout the day, as children learn and grow through play and shared experiences.
As a parent, I couldn’t be happier having my daughter attend Durham. She has been with Durham since EYFS1 and she has grown massively in confidence. From all the lovely event and dress-up days to her day-to-day learning, she absolutely loves it. My favourite part about being a Durham mum is the 'Stop and Learn' days. As a parent it has been wonderful to take part in my daughter’s learning journey and witness first-hand all the amazing things she has been doing at school.

The Early Years programme at Durham School for Girls begins with girls from the age of 3. This is the initial step in a learning process that will see the students through to the end of secondary school in Year 12 (or 13). This early start to education enables the children to acquire the basic language, social and cognitive skills required to become lifelong learners. This is all done in a supportive, all-female environment. It gives them the confidence and interest they require to succeed in their studies at Durham School and beyond.
Durham School follows the British EYFS framework in early years, with purposeful play being the main means of learning. Structured and child-led activities enable children to explore and develop early literacy, numeracy, communication, and creativity. UK-trained teachers take young learners on a journey of discovery-based experiences that help them to have a solid foundation so that by the time they get to primary school, they are confident, curious and prepared to explore more formal learning.
Yes. The early years' daily routine includes physical activity and exploration outside. Children have exclusive outdoor facilities and physical development programmes that facilitate gross motor, wellbeing and social learning. At Durham School, learning is not independent of movement or play but rather its core. The all-girls setting allows all children to explore, move, and discover in a safe and friendly environment.
Our teachers at Durham School are trained to recognise and address individual developmental needs. For our youngest students, continuous monitoring of speech, language, and social development is provided, and any issues are discussed as soon as possible with the families. The close knit and nurturing environment of Durham School allows all teachers to know every child on a personal level, hence offering early and effective support before it becomes a hindrance to learning. Our Inclusion team, led by our Head of Inclusion and including SENCOs, EAL teachers and learning support assistants can then work with teachers, students and families to provide additional support wherever necessary.
The female-only, all-girls campus at Durham School provides a very special and safe environment in which young learners can thrive.
