Students in Key Stage 1 follow the British Curriculum. Learning is themed around questions that inspire curiosity and creativity. Teachers personalise lessons to develop key skills and confidence. Durham's Primary School covers Years 1 to 6, catering to girls aged approximately 5 to 11. Building directly on the foundations of Early Years, Primary delivers a structured British curriculum across core and specialist subjects. Students develop academic skills, character, and confidence in a supportive all-girls environment; fully preparing them for the transition into secondary school and the increased academic demands of Key Stage 3.
Islamic values and Qatari cultural identity are not add-ons at Durham School, but they are the focus of school life. Islamic Studies and Arabic are subjects taught in primary school according to the requirements of the Ministry of Education. Everyday life, school holidays and the school culture in general celebrate and commemorate Qatari culture. Such integration ensures that both academic success and cultural identity develop simultaneously, and each girl has a good sense of self and identity.
In primary, English, Maths and Science are taught by highly experienced teachers, who are mainly UK-trained, according to the British National Curriculum.
